BOATS
All boat registrations expire December 31st of each year
Please bring in your most recent boat registration for renewals. To renew your boat registration, you will need to pay your boat excise tax (based on the length of the boat, horsepower of the motor and age of the boat), a state registration fee (based on the size of the motor) and a $1.00 agent fee.
Private Sale
To register a boat purchased through a private sale for the first time, you will need to bring in a bill of sale (the bill of sale should include the sellers name and address, the buyers name and address, the serial #, a description of the boat (length, motor size and year) and the purchase price. A 5% Maine sales tax will be collected based on the purchase price on the bill of sale.
If you purchased a boat previously registered by a Maine resident, you will keep the same Maine registration numbers that are already on the boat. If there is no serial # or the boat is homemade, a state issued serial # request will need to be completed.
Dealer Sale
To register a boat purchased through a Maine dealer for the first time, you will need to bring in the bill of sale showing that the sales tax was paid at the time of purchase. You will also need to know the length of the boat, the year it was built & the horsepower of the motor.
ATV & SNOWMOBILE
All ATV & Snowmobile registrations expire June 30th of each year
Please bring in your most recent snowmobile / ATV registration for renewals. To renew your snowmobile / ATV registration, you will need to pay a $35 state registration fee and a $1 agent fee.
Private Sale
To register a snowmobile / ATV purchased through a private sale for the first time, you will need to bring in a bill of sale (the bill of sale should include the sellers name and address, the buyers name and address, the serial #, make, year and purchase price). A 5% Maine sales tax will be collected based on the purchase price on the bill of sale.
Dealer Sale
To register a snowmobile / ATV purchased through a Maine dealer for the first time, you will need to bring in the bill of sale showing sales tax paid at the time of purchase.
