Help Us Find a Housing Solution for Sheriff's Summer Coverage

Chebeague Island has always come together to solve challenges, and we are reaching out to the community for help once again.
The Town is beginning to plan for Cumberland County Sheriff's summer coverage in 2027 and is actively exploring housing options to support this important public safety service. The housing arrangement that has been used in recent years is no longer be available, and we are looking for potential solutions now, so there is adequate time to plan.

We are interested in hearing from anyone who:
  • May have a rental property available during the summer months.
  • Is considering selling a property that could be suitable for housing public safety personnel.
  • Has ideas, suggestions, or creative solutions that could help meet this need.
  • Knows of a housing opportunity that may be worth exploring.

At this stage, we are simply gathering information and exploring all possibilities. No idea is too small, and even a conversation may help identify a solution.
Supporting Sheriff's coverage helps ensure the continued safety and well-being of our residents, visitors, and emergency responders. If you think you may be able to help, or if you would like to discuss an idea, please contact:
