Replacement of All Chickadee License Plates Begins May 1, 2025

Beginning May 1, 2025, anyone who currently has a chickadee license plate will receive a new issue Pine Tree license plate when they reregister their vehicle. They may choose between a plate with a pine tree and star or one without those graphics. Registrants who would like to keep their current chickadee plate numbers may reserve their plate number for a $25 one-time fee (links below).

Mainers who have a specialty plate will not be impacted by the change to the Pine Tree Plate. Specialty plates include the Agriculture and Conservation plates, Lobster plate, Breast Cancer plate, among others.
