How do I get to a hospital?

Medical and traumatic injuries do not follow the ferry schedule
but we can get you to the hospital ANYTIME!

In you believe you are having a medical emergency or have been injured
DO NOT WAIT!  CALL
911!!!

When 911 is called, many wheels are set in motion!
1. Our well trained emergency medical dispatchers at the Cumberland County Regional Communications Center will take your information, and can direct life saving care over the phone (from CPR to how to deliver a baby!).  While they are talking with you, the ambulance is being dispatched through the communications team.
2. EMS responders will come to you and assess your condition and treat your conditions according to Maine EMS protocols.
3. Our friends and fellow responders on the CTC ferry M/V Islander will ensure they have a pilot and deckhand, 24/7 (they are always on call!).  If the ferry is scheduled to leave, they will wait for us, if en route to Cousins Island, they may simply turn around.  At night or in between ferry runs, the crew will respond to the ferry and fire it up.
4. Our stretcher goes right onto the boat and securely attaches to mounts onboard.  A curtain blocks any view from those who may be on board - in some instances passengers may be required to disembark for the transport (the ferry will return ASAP).
5. On arrival at Cousins Island, we will transfer the patient to an awaiting ambulance.  Typically this is via our friends and colleagues on Yarmouth Fire & Rescue (Yarmouth Fire & Rescue), but if they are already on another emergency, we utilize other EMS agencies such as Cumberland Fire & Rescue (Fire/EMS | cumberlandme (cumberlandmaine.com))
6. We routinely transport to Maine Medical Center (22 Bramhall Street, Portland, ME 04102), and Midcoast Hospital (122 Medical Center Drive, Brunswick, ME 04011).  Based on protocols and the type of emergency, we may need to go to a specific hospital, or utilize helicopter transport via Lifeflight
6. Off hour transports are for medical emergencies only and not routine trips.  We can advise, but unfortunately not provide, return ferry - use of the normal ferry schedule is required. Click for schedule The Ferry — Chebeague Transportation Company (ctcferry.org)
