Burn Permits
- Any burning on Chebeague Island is required to have a burn permit.
- Burn permits cannot be issued in advance and are issued for the day you apply, and only for one day at a time.
- There is no charge for a burn permit.
- Permits are issued only as fire conditions allow by the class day (Class 1 and 2 only).
- The class day is determined by the Maine Forest Service. Wildfire Danger Report: Maine Forest Service: Maine ACF. The class day is determined at 9am each day, and permits can be obtained after this time. Additionally, there are some locations on Chebeague Island where open burning is not allowed.

You do not need a burn permit for a cooking fire on your own property.
